History of bed bugs and their recovery

Bed bugs were a widespread crisis in Canada. Even though bedbugs were wiped out from Canada by using pest killers like DDT and Malathion, bed bugs began to re-emerge and gives trouble. They soon re-emerge because of public as they are lagging in pest awareness. Also another major reason for re-emerging is bedbugs have secretive behavior in nature. This facilitates bed bugs to travel from one house to another very easily. Thus bed bugs dispersed very rapidly throughout the country.

Till now nobody can say the reason for resurrection of bed bugs in Canada. A lot of factors come into play for the re-emergence of this bedbug. Over the past ten years bedbugs were increased all over the world. As the pervasiveness of bed bugs were increased, the frequencies of encounters with bed bugs were increased all over Canada.

The changes in pest management practices in accordance with the development of resistance to newly invented pesticides have paved the way for successful abolition of bed bug populations. In the past, guest rooms in hotel were usually caring on a regular basis with residual pesticides. As a result, bed bugs commence while traveling and were likely to contact pesticide as they left the luggage and traveled to the bed. After 1990's there was a remarkable change in pest management practices. In hotels, motels and apartments regularly scheduled handlings of baseboards were substitute with targeted applications of baits for pests namely ants and cockroaches. If residual pesticide applications were not used, bed bugs can be able to move from the luggage to the bed, and effectively initiate an infestation.

Bed bugs are tremendous hitch hikers and after establishing into an environment, they can readily reach from infested locations to new locations that were before un-infested. Apart from the points mentioned above, the first and foremost reason for spreading of bedbugs is lack of bed bugs awareness among the people. Many people deny or won't accept that bed bugs really survive. So they will bring the discarded furniture without knowing that the furniture they are taking is infested with bed bugs. Once the bugs are introduced, they felt the presence of bedbugs after a few months. But before that bedbugs were rapidly spread all over their house.

The main reason is that infestations are not found out at the starting stage because of the cryptic and secretive habits displayed by bed bugs. Bed bugs were very active at night times. They come out of secretive hiding places and eat people's blood while they are asleep. As bed bugs bite is painless, people can't feel the pain in sleep. So they are not aware that they have been bitten by bed bugs.

After finishing a blood meal they move back to their hiding places. Those places cannot be detected by anyone. Even they will never come out at day times. If and only if bedbugs want to feed again they will come out of their hiding place. They will hide for several days to a week or more if a bedbug take heavy blood meals. As people were not identified the bedbugs introduction into their home, any bedbugs bite symptoms make them bit confused and they suspect that whether it is poison ivy, scabies, allergic reactions etc. In the mean time bed bugs become very well established and make the infestation.
